Paint is next on the agenda and is being lined up now. I had a colour picked out but have been told by one painter that it will add $1800 in materials to have a metallic colour  So think I may have to go for a solid colour now. Not to worry Basil will still look great.

I'm itching to have Basil back.... but I have been patient this long so whats a little bit more :D

Hi, the wheels are 17x7 original porsche 996/boxster wheels. I believe they are known as the 'turbo twist'.. Hope this helps :)

Wow, Basil is coming on very nicely indeed 8)

Are those Honda seats that you had put in? I was not able to find a set like that when looking for my previous beetle.

Should be a very nice car to drive when it's all done :D

Yes they are honda prelude seats. They will need re-upholstering at some stage as the previous owner put a cigarette burn on one of them :( (we did know that at time of purchase though). For the time being we will put on seat covers :)

Looking great!!! Well done!

As for the colour, have you thought about old school bold colour with a flattening agent in it? Nice sheen to it but with a satin finish? I'm obsessed with the idea of doing satin paint. Looks tops on old bugs.

Bugluv,
Lookin' hot!! He'll be a different beast once he's home.
I read your post on AVD, and I'd check up on various forums about the cursed 009 before going down that path. They have their place, but not on a stock 34 Pict 3 equipped 1600. You'd getter better service out of your DVDA (what's on yours now?) after some TLC or scrimp 'n' save for a decent SVDA.

Enjoy
Ctefeh

G'Day Ctefeh,

Put it this way - what went north to Sydney on Basil is not necessarily coming south. We have complete faith in those working on the car - they have been doing this business for many years and know their stuff..You will appreciate neither Bugluv nor I are giving all away on our secrets on posts on Basil's progress !!

Yes I have read good and bad reports on 009s. Just like I have read good and bad reports on VW aircooled high fire risk beetles before going out and buying one to restore!! Given that 'Basil' has had absolutely NO problems cruising at ( or perhaps above ) the posted speed limits with other traffic on the Hume Hwy heading up to Sydney I am sure heading south will be a similar joy!.. Dont worry - we're not just bolting on some fancy distributor and leaving the rest of Basil's engine stock - its a little bit more involved than that!

Thanks for your concerns -good advice too, but I have great confidence in the team now working on Mr Basil! 8)

Cruising at a steady speed with a 009 is fine... but it WILL let you down when pulling away from the lights. If all your driving is on a racetrack at high revs then by all means get a 009, but if you use your car for driving around town your dizzy needs vacuum advance.
