Hi all,

I put a photo of my car in the introduction section a few weeks ago and a photo of the car prior to purchase. Anyway, I have the car now and have started the rebuild process. Here are a few photos to show you the progress in the last week or so.

The plan is for a semi standard rebuild. The visual mods for now will be matching original interior (grey) sports seats (recaro style), lowered, mag wheels. Also going to put 4 wheel disc brakes now whilst the body is off to make the job easier. Didn't realise how many parts I am going to have to buy for a ground up rebuild. I think  the budget is already blown. The advantage is that I am doing most of the work myself.

Also one day, hope to build a efi turbo motor to slip in there. But this will take some real sucking up to the wife to let me spend some more money. As much as I would like it now, it will have to wait a while.

Cheers, Kevin

Well done, the early '60s bugs are just great!

Let me know when you figure out how to get the missus to release the funds (as I am in need of such valuable information :P)

Awesome, keep up the good work. At least it looks like you have got a lot of space in the shed to work with!

Thanks all. Re the space, I have a good boss and he is letting me keep the car in at work. I just had an extra weeks holidays to go work on it, but it just felt like I was at work every day but I guess it was for me. Will keep the photos coming, but now with christmas I cant get the body sand blasted until next year  But there is plenty of other things to do.

Very cool. You should leave the exterior paint as is, go for the full rat look :D

What a way to end the year. These arrived today, so I have something to look forward to in 08. Also a photo of what stage the car is up to.

Happy New Year, all. Kevin

Little update.

Did a little more work today on the door trims. The original backings are broken and I'm trying to save money, so I desided to pull the original covers off and make new backings. I know the covers are a little dirty, but yet to be cleaned and this will save me over $450 for now.

Now have the floor pan back from the sand blasters and took to cutting out the rusted battery tray area and have spot welded in the new panel. This is my first ever panel reapair job, so the welds may be a little crook. In the second photo you can see the removed section on the other side floor pan.

You can get the know how/room/tools, in time 8)

I'm in the process of getting the room at the moment, tools are easy to find, and I'll ask lots of questions to get the know-how!

I'm lucky we have room at work, most tools available at work and I had no idea as this is my first VW and attempt at a resto (not that it will be a stock resto).

As Martin said, there are always people willing to offer their experiences and knowledge.

Nothing exciting, but she is mounted up and ready for the trip to the sand blasters tomorrow.
