Nice one JP, when is the track test day :)

Funny you should ask that....

I was supposed to go to Wakefield on Canberra Day, but that will be my first weekend back after 3 weeks away, and the missus suggested that it might be a bad idea if I were not home :P

Fair call I reckon.

So I will have to make another time later on in the year.

mmmmm sway bars...

that's the kind of modification I like: not bleeding obvious from the outside, but makes the car... better.

I got a short shifting kit from Gareth (CVWC), and WOW! Gear changes are very precise and short. Very small throw between gears, which makes cluchless gearchanges a breeze

Like Martin says, not obvious, but makes the car much better to drive 8)

I have just made another scary 'mod' to the manky little Mk1.

I got the front wheel bearings replaced (I didn't do it as I don't have the right tools).

Not really a 'mod' as such, but the little bugger coasts really nicely now. No more pulling up at the lights without using the brakes anymore    Oh yeh, and no more grinding noises

I will have to look at getting some Mk1 GTI brakes now ...

You don't have a hammer? Maybe the Golf bearings are a bit more complex than the Type 1 bearings

   Didn't you know the leap forward in technology that is the Mk1 Golf ??? Hammers don't cut it any more!

It was amazing how I did not notice how they had deteriorated gradually over time. It was the 2 trips to Sydney and back (in three weeks), packed full of stuff that killed the bearings in the end. After these 2 trips, I started to notice the grinding

I'm back after 2 months away, and couldn't wait to get back into my manky little Mk1 :D

After about 45 seconds of kicking her over (to let the mechanical pump get fuel to the carbie - I assume), she fired right into life! WOOT! Interestingly, the fuel is still 'good' after sitting for this long, well, at least she runs and remains reliable so far. I've got some fresh fuel in there now, and she continues to run very nicely indeed.

Got to love that german engineering

Good on you! I can't seem to get much done on Griffin Bug even with my new high and 4.3m long ramps. I suppose new wiring for headlights, wipers etc and a tow bar and some paint work are better than nothing.

Perhaps Manky could give Griffin some enthusiasm!
