
Half the fun of going to the Old Bar Kombi Festival is the cruise up there, so why not travel and arrive in style as part of the Volks Culture convoy. Everyone welcome.
Sydney to Old Bar
Meet up at Thornleigh McDonald's at 8am, Saturday October 3rd for breakfast. Depart at 8:45 sharp.
Convoy should be at the end of the F3 at 10.40am (1h, 50mins)
and a suggested stop at Heatherbrae Pies at 10.45am
25min stop at Heatherbrae pies, depart 11.10am sharp, anyone getting fuel at the end of the F3 can catch up for departure time.
The remainder of the trip to Old Bar should be 2 hours or so.
(1.10pm-1.40pm arrival)
Hopefully some central coasties can join in along the way.
Unlike previous years, there will also be some good Kombi related activities on Saturday afternoon. We have been working with the organisers to expand the event from being just the Sunday. So, Saturday's program now looks like this:
Saturday Arvo/Evening Program
4:00pm: There will be a Kombi parade at the Old Bar Beach Festival on Saturday the 3rd October, 2009 starting at 4 pm. the day before the Kombi World Record Attempt and Kombi Fest.
All Kombi owners are invited to participate and it will start from Old Bar at the Beach Car Park. The Parade will start travelling along Old Bar Road to the roundabout at the Freeway. Turning right to joining the Free Way travelling north for approximately 5km. Turning left to Taree at the Cundletown/Taree exit travelling along the main thorough fair then Victoria Street Taree.
Returning left to Old Bar over the bridge, crossing the Manning River travelling along Manning River Drive then left at the Purfleet roundabout, through the next roundabout (where the entrance to the Service Centre is). Keep driving straight through the next round about, crossing over the Free Way returning to Old Bar along Old Bar Road. This route is expected to take approximately an hour and a half at an average of 60klm per hour. Please drive safe and do not speed.
5:30pm: At 5:30pm after the Kombi Parade, all Kombi owners, are invited to attend a Community BBQ at Rushby Park (the park in front of the caravan park and the beach) where there will be a Lantern parade.
6:30pm: Volks Culture – Chaired by Steve Muller. Steve will discuss Kombi heritage, modern day Volks culture and interview owners and talk about their Kombi’s. This will be supported by archival photos & videos up on the big screen.
7:30pm: Then a movie will be screen entitled “Keep On Cruzin” Volks Culture by Volka Ula which includes filmed segments from the 2007 Old Bar Kombi Fest and other Kombi gatherings around Australia.
8:30pm: Free entertainment: By Kombi Owners band playing 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music. There will definitely be a few familiar faces in the line-up.
All in all, it should be a great event, so dust off your Kombis, and get cruising!
